ForbSpace welcomes the Government of Kenya's recent launch of the Animal Identification and Traceability System (ANITRAC), a significant milestone in the country's journey toward a more modern, digitally connected livestock sector.

The initiative, launched in Tana River County, introduces the use of electronic RFID ear tags to uniquely identify, register, and trace livestock throughout the production chain. By strengthening livestock identification and traceability, ANITRAC is expected to improve disease surveillance, support ownership verification, facilitate access to finance, and help Kenyan livestock producers meet international market requirements.

Speaking during the launch, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe emphasized that the system will enable farmers to access better markets while improving transparency across the livestock value chain. As global markets increasingly demand traceable animal products, initiatives such as ANITRAC represent an important investment in Kenya's agricultural future.
